Another one from my reading list. I'm so happy when I can cross something off my list. The title of this one in English is PLAYER PIANO and was first published in 1952. The story takes place in a near-future society that is almost totally mechanized, eliminating the need for human laborers. This widespread mechanization creates conflict between the wealthy upper class, the engineers and managers who keep society running, and the lower class, whose skills and purpose in society have been replaced by machines.
Although published in 1952 the themes in the book are still (and maybe more then ever) up to date. Mankind's blind faith in technology (and its usually disastrous effect on society) as well as the dehumanization of the poor or oppressed (that have since become common themes throughout Vonnegut's work) could easily be contemporary themes and problems that we face nowadays.
“I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.”
“He watched his brother find peace of mind through psychiatry. That’s why he won’t have anything to do with it.
I don’t follow. Isn’t his brother happy?
Utterly and always happy. And my husband says somebody’s just got to be maladjusted; that somebody’s got to be uncomfortable enough to wonder where people are, where they’re going, and why they’re going there.”
The naip polish that I have on the nails is Essence Walk on the wild side, and once again a discontinued one.
On the pictures I have, as always, a base coat, two coats of Walk on the wild side and a top coat.
Have a great day!
