What I'm reading #1

I don't know where the month of June went and how come is this just the third post in June, because I wasn't so busy, so I don't have excuse for posting so seldom. But here I'm again with another book. After a little bit of research I found out that this one is not translated in English. Daria Bignardi is an Italian author (among other things) and L'acustica perfetta is her third novel. The title in English could be translated into something like Perfect Acoustic.

This novel is about the nature of love and how dangerous it can be if there is not enough mutual communication in relationships. The story is told to us by a husband and is not linear, we are slowly getting to know the whole history of a married couple with throwbacks. Easy read, perfect for upcoming summer days.

As you can see, there are no nails today. My nails are recently so damaged and I didn't want to put nail polish on. They are driving me insane as they are so brittle and I don't know what to do to make them stop breaking. Do you have any suggestions what should I do? Still I didn’t want to miss a post because of that and now we have a new category on the blog.

Have a great day :)

What I'm reading + NOTD pt.33

A lot of times I come from the library with a book that I know nothing about it and it turns out that it's actually really good and interesting. This time it was The Slap.

At a suburban barbecue, a man slaps a child who is not his own. This event has a shocking ricochet effect on a group of people, mostly friends, who are directly or indirectly influenced by the event. In this novel, Christos Tsiolkas turns his unflinching and all-seeing eye onto that which connects us all: the modern family and domestic life in the twenty-first century.

The Slap is told from the points of view of eight people who were present at the barbecue. The slap and its consequences force them all to question their own families and the way they live, their expectations, beliefs, and desires. What unfolds is a powerful, haunting novel about love, sex and marriage, parenting and children, and the fury and intensity all the passions and conflicting beliefs that family can arouse. In its clear-eyed and forensic dissection of the ever-growing middle class and its aspirations and fears, The Slap is also a poignant, provocative novel about the nature of loyalty and happiness, compromise and truth.

Tsiolkas's style is direct, vulgar on a regular basis, but also nice and delicate, precise in the descriptions and consistently sincere. You can't say that less is more for Tsiolkas, for him, nothing is too much.

There is one more good thing about this novel. The story does take place in Australia, but our storytellers come from different ethnical and cultural backgrounds, so we have different views on life in Australia and in general.

The nail polish is Barry M from the line Gelly Hi Shine with the name Rose Hip. I like the colour very much, is a pastel pink and it looks even more beautiful in the summer when you are a little bit more tanned. But the application, not so great. The brush is very small, so you have to go over your nail multiple times and with that you are only moving the colour around, making a mess. Still I somehow managed to make it presentable with two coats.

Have a great day :)

What I'm reading + NOTD pt.32

I'm slowly crossing out all of my Agatha Christie's books that are on my reading list. There is just one left I think. What will I read then? These books are so fun and easy to read. Other good criminal books are almost always borrowed in library, but I could almost always found some Agatha Christie's book that I haven’t read already.

In Hallowe'en Party a teenage murder witness is drowned in a tub of apples...At a Hallowe'en party, Joyce - a hostile thirteen-year-old - boasts that she once witnessed a murder. When no-one believes her, she storms off home. But within hours her body is found, still in the house, drowned in an apple-bobbing tub. That night, Hercule Poirot is called in to find the 'evil presence'. But first he must establish whether he is looking for a murderer or a double-murderer...

Nail polish is from Essence, again an old one, from the first colour & go line. The name is Choose me! and it is blue with small gold shimmer. Because of the gold shimmer it almost looks green from certain angles (like in the picture above). The application is really easy. Everything regarding the application is just perfect, the brush, the formula, effortless really.

Have a great day :)
