Agatha Christie 1950's Omnibus and NOTD

Agatha Christie's imaginative crime novels and thrillers made her a household name from 1920s trough to her last books in the early 1970s. Best known as the creator of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, Agatha tirelessly provided her publisher with at least one book every year, and twenty of her contemporary crime novelswere to feature neither Poirot nor Marple. Instead a wide range of ingenious plots would be played out by a selection of amateur sleuths, professional detectives, young adventuresses or unwary bystanders caught up in unforeseen events. And the 1950's Omnibus is a collection of four novels of such sorts.

Designed to be read individually or as a set, this collection provides a fascinating window on a changing world.

1) THEY CAME TO BAGHDAD, 1951
An exotic adventure begins when a wounded British agent dies in the arms of a courageous young woman.

Nail polish: Miss Sporty Clubbing Colours number 314
An old nail polish, a dark blue, reminds me of ink.

2) DESTINATION UNKNOWN, 1954
In Casablanca a girl with nothing to live for is recruited for a suicide mission to find a missing scientist.

Nail polish: Miss Sporty Clubbing Colours number 314 + Essence colour&go 78 blue addicted
Now that I have peel off base coat from Catrice it's time for glitter. This is an old one from Essence that everyone was crazy about when this came out. It is indeed beautiful, but my brush is bad, so it's really difficult to apply it properly. The glitter is hexagonal shape in blue and green with blue small glitter.

3) ORDEAL BY INNOCENCE, 1958
When an innocent man imprisoned for murder dies behind bars, the real killer seeks to bury the evidence.

Nail polish: Miss Sporty Quick Dry 'n 1 min number 60
A classic warm red colour, again the application is not the easiest, because the polish is really old.

4) THE PALE HORSE, 1961
A priest's brutal death near a county inn reveals a recipe for witchcraft with a perilous twist of danger.

Nail polish: Miss Sporty Clubbing Colours number 313
I don't like this colour very much, but since I had a theme with nail polishes and the book I went with the flow and pick my last Miss Sporty nail polish.

Have a great day :)

What I'm reading + NOTD pt. 52

Mother of three and wife of John-Paul, Cecilia discovers an old envelope in the attic. Written in her husband's hand, it says: to be opened only in the event of my death. Curious, she opens it - and time stops. John-Paul's letter confesses to a terrible mistake which, if revealed, would wreck their family as well as the lives of others. Cecilia - betrayed, angry and distraught - wants to do the right thing, but right for who? If she protects her family by staying silent, the truth will worm through her heart. But if she reveals her husband's secret, she will hurt those she loves most.

I won't say much in order to avoid spoiler, but it's a book that reads fast, at least if you love a bit of mystery.

The nail polish is a discontinued one from Catrice with the name Hugo Moss and as you can see it is green. But it's also a jelly. And I like it a lot. I think the colour is just perfect. From the close up of my nails you can see the application is not perfect, but I think that is mainly because of the base coat which is too dense for a jelly nail polish.

Have a great day :)

Catrice Peel Off base coat and Trend It Up Holo Dimension nail polish in 030

In the 2016 we got a new brand of drugstore make up in our stores. It's Trend It Up and it DM's own brand. The prices are in the range of Essence cosmetics, and such should be also the quality. What I have bought is just this nail polish and a mascara, which is nothing special.

I was so happy when I saw that Catrice is bringing a peel off nail polish with their seasonal update (this nail polish is from their spring/summer update and not the latest winter update). I have a lot of glitter nail polishes but I don't wear them because the removal is a pain in the ass really. But now I can wear them again.

On the Catrice site it says that this 2in1 basecoat has “holy grail” potential. It not only contains caring ingredients like argan oil and panthenol, but also allows colour and effect nail polishes to be peeled off effortlessly. It leaves the surface of the nails clean and well-groomed without the need for nail polish remover and cotton wool pads. The water-based, white formula becomes transparent when it dries and thus provides the perfect base for colour and effect nail polishes. Just apply one, thin layer of the Peel Off & Protecting Base Coat, let it dry and then apply any effect or nail colour polish on top.

I have no problems with the application of this base nail polish, it even dries quite quickly. It protects my nails just fine from the vile glitter :) The only problem I have with this that is not durable. From my nails it begins to chip in one day. But to tell you the truth I kind of anticipated the results. When I peel the nail polish off it comes off without the problem and usually all in one piece. For me is more important the easy removal of the glitter that the longevity of the nail polish, so I can live with this negative quality.

I put the Trend It Up nail polish over the peel off base because sometimes the removal of the holo polishes is not the easiest. The colour is nice, but it's sheer. I had to apply three coats to achieve the opacity you see on the photos. Other than that I had no problem with the application, the brush is wide enough and similar to Catrice's brushes. I just wish I picked the shade 020. I wanted this colour, but there was a mix up on the stand and the shade 020 was missing so I picked the wrong colour. Stupid me. I wanted a darker colour than 030, but now it is what it is.

And here are some bonus photos of my cats together with the nail polish. They just had to check what I was doing :)
