What I'm reading + NOTD pt.3

Another one from my reading list. I'm so happy when I can cross something off my list. The title of this one in English is PLAYER PIANO and was first published in 1952. The story takes place in a near-future society that is almost totally mechanized, eliminating the need for human laborers. This widespread mechanization creates conflict between the wealthy upper class, the engineers and managers who keep society running, and the lower class, whose skills and purpose in society have been replaced by machines.

Although published in 1952 the themes in the book are still (and maybe more then ever) up to date. Mankind's blind faith in technology (and its usually disastrous effect on society) as well as the dehumanization of the poor or oppressed (that have since become common themes throughout Vonnegut's work) could easily be contemporary themes and problems that we face nowadays.

“I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.”

“He watched his brother find peace of mind through psychiatry. That’s why he won’t have anything to do with it.
I don’t follow. Isn’t his brother happy?
Utterly and always happy. And my husband says somebody’s just got to be maladjusted; that somebody’s got to be uncomfortable enough to wonder where people are, where they’re going, and why they’re going there.”

The naip polish that I have on the nails is Essence Walk on the wild side, and once again a discontinued one.

On the pictures I have, as always, a base coat, two coats of Walk on the wild side and a top coat.

Have a great day!

Three times muted red, three times Essence

When I'm buying new beauty products I'm always careful that I don't buy something that is the same or similar colour that I already have at home. What happened here then? Two of the products are even recent purchases. I guess I really like this color, that I don't even know how to describe. I would say the colour is a toned down red, with a little bit of pink in the mix. Good news is that all of the products are still available, we all know how Essence likes to discontinue their stuff. So this review of the products might be usefull ;)

1. Essence sheer & shine lipstick
09 I feel pretty

This line of lipsticks is new addition to the Essence family and just like the name says they are sheer with a shiny finish. I think is the best if we treat them as some kind of mix between lipbalm and lipstick so that we won't be disappointed when they don't last long on the lips. But on the other hand they are very comfortable to wear, are easy to apply and are a great pick for those who are affraid to wear bold and very noticable colours on their lips. The colour that I have is still noticable, as you can see, but is also one of the darkest colours in this collection so is understandable.

2. Essence liquid lipstick
06 Make a statement

Lipstick? Lipgloss? Or something in between? I like lipsticks in liquid form, but I prefer them to be matte and longlasting. This one is very shiny and glossy so I'd say in this aspect is very similar to lipgloss. The main difference is the opacity. The pigmentation of this shade is great, it covers my lips completely in one swipe. So it is opaque and last longer on the lips than a lipgloss, but worse than a lipstick.

3. Essence longlasting lipliner
06 A girl's dream

When Essence launched their new version of lipliners everybody in the blogging world got crazy over these, so of course I had to try them too. Yes, they are soft for lipliners, but I think that almost everybody is wearing these lipliners like lipsticks, and so am I. Because of the price you can experiment with colours and maybe go out of your comfort zone. If you pay 1,59 € for a product you won't regret picking the wrong colour. I must say that I like this colour very much. It is redder than the other two products, although it's still a lttle bit muted. The lipliner applies nicely, doesn't emphasise dry patches and doesn't dry out the lips. Staying power is not so great, since it doesn't survive eating. If you don't eat then it should be just fine ;)

Ok, so the colours are similar, that is true, but the finishes are different and when put next to each other you can see the difference. All is good then.

If I would have to choose just one, I would choose the lipliner. It's a beautiful red and the formula is good. The secon favourite is probably sheer & shine lipstick, just because is so easy to use and you don't have to worry if you have just a line around your lips, since this won't happen (it disappears completely) and you can even (re)apply it as easy as a lipbalm, without any problems.

Have a great day!

What I'm reading + NOTD pt. 2

This one is from my sister's bookshelf. A light reading. Brings back memories of my college years, sort of. Although if I'm completely honest with you, I liked Rowell's Eleanor & Park better.

Describtion: Cath and Wren are identical twins, and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they're off to university and Wren's decided she doesn't want to be one half of a pair any more - she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It's not so easy for Cath. She's horribly shy and has always buried herself in the fan fiction she writes, where she always knows exactly what to say and can write a romance far more intense than anything she's experienced in real life. Now Cath has to decide whether she's ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she's realizing that there's more to learn about love than she ever thought possible.

Nail polish is Catrice, and a limited edition one - FALLosophy, number C03 Berrytale. On this picture I have a base coat, two coats of Berrytale and a top coat. If you want a shiny finish you need a top coat, because the nailpolish itself dries in some kind of satin finish.

The pictures... yes I know, but I WILL get better, promise ;)

Have a great day!

Catrice Ultimate Stay Lipstick Plum & Base with comparison

You know how when autumn starts everybody starts wearing dark lipstick. Well at least I suppose it is so, all youtubers and bloggers are doing it. I like dark lipstick, but haven't found the perfect one for me jet. I have an image in my mind, how my perfect autumn lipstick should look like. It should be dark red, with a little bit of brown and violet in the mix. And the lipstick should be from the drugstore department.

So the other day I was looking trough some Catrice lipsticks and I saw this lipstick that was dark, although I knew the colour wouldn't be what I'm searching for, but it has a name that sugest an autumnal colour so I bought it anyway.

The lipstick I bought is from the line Ultimate Stay. The charateristic of this line are intensive colours and a trendy satin-matt finish. The highly pigmented, longlasting texture has a convincing high coverage without drying out the sensitive skin on your lips. So it says on the official Catrice site. The colour that I bought is 070 Plum & Base.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the bullet was how undone the lipstick looks. As you can see from the photo above the edges aren't smooth and there are lines visible on the surface, like it was cut with a knife. I know this is not a big deal, but for me was a little disappointing. At least the smell is amazing (for me). It smells like confetti (a little problem with translation here. I think confetti is actualy an italian word, what I mean with confetti are those candies that you get at a wedding, an almond coated in sugar).

The aplication is nice, no draging on the lips at all, and the feeling on the lips is not drying. The finish should be satin-matte. But what is satin-matte finish anyway? Is not matte, that I can tell you, it is also not ultra shiny, so maybe this is satin-matte finish :) And the colour, well the colour you can see for yourself. At this point I won't try describing the colour. On the lips it lasted about three hours, then I ate something. It wasn't all gone, but I would need to correct the aplication otherwise I would look silly, like I aplied just the lipliner and this looks just hideous. The lipstick survived drinking just fine.

Since I got this lipstick I tought that I would make a comparison with a lipstick that I already own and in the bullet is the perfect shade, just what I'm searching for. Too bad is not the same colour on the lips. The lisptick is Milani 21 Sangria.

The most dissapointing thing about this lipstick is the colour. Look how dark is in the bullet and how different is the colour on the lips. Sure, if I could try the tester on my arm I would see that the colour is lighter, but the fact is that I bought this lipstick in America and there were no testers. Can you imagine that? Just some plastic squares with presumable colour. Ummm, that is not very helpful (imagine buying foundation or concealer). I bought it in a drugstore, unfortunately I forgot the name of it. That is why I don't know the name of the line of this lipstick. On the tube it doesn't say anything. I looked online and there are two possibilities. Is it Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipstick or Color Lipstick? I don't know, because there is no colour Sangria in any of them and the packaging of both is the same.

The second dissapointing thing is the aplication. It is uneven, emphasize dry patches and you have to go over lips multiple times if you want decent results. On my lips the lipstick felt drying and because all of the above I usually put lipbalm underneath it when I'm wearing it. Unfortunally the colour gets then even brighter and the lasting power diminishes. Otherwise it last good, it survives eating better that the Catrice one, but I think some correction would be needed. It smells so good, it has some kind of lemony scent that I can't describe properly and is not typical for lipsticks. Other positive  qualities are also the price, which is unexpensive (don't know anymore how much it was, I think around 7 $) and the colour, which is nice, just not what I expected.

Here are the swatches of both lipsticks next to each other. They look similar, but are not dupes. I would say that the Catrice one has a blue undertone.

The search for my perfect dark lipstick continues. Stay tuned ;)

Have a great day!

Remembering the last days of summer with Kiko 343 Verde Primavera

Even though each season is beautiful in different ways and autumn is a splendid mess of colours that everybody seems to love, I sometimes miss hot summer days. Now that weather is gloomy and is raining every day for last couple of days it feels like a good time to post the photos of this beautiful nail polish that has a name after a season. Not summer, but spring.

Kiko 343 Verde Primavera, 2 coats

This was also the last swim of this season. Sea, see you again next year!

Have a great day ;)

What I'm reading + NOTD pt.1

Looking through the pictures on my phone I noticed that I have a lot of pictures of my freshly painted nails together with a book I was reading at that time. So I tought, why not make also this kind of short post on my blog.

You could notice Chad Harbach's book in my reading list, this means that I can cross this one out. The original title is The Art of Fielding. In The Art of Fielding, we see young men who know that their four years on the baseball diamond at Westish College are all that remain of their sporting careers. Only their preternaturally gifted fielder, Henry Skrimshander, seems to have the chance to keep his dream - and theirs, vicariously - alive, until a routine throw goes disastrously off course, and the fates of five people are upended.

The nail polish I'm wearing is from Essence, from discontinued line colour&go, number 116 gorgeous bling bling.

If this nail polish doesn't scream autumn to you, then I don't know what will :) This polish was also mentioned in my Hello autumn post, and now you can see the swatches. It is special because there are gold flakies in the burnt orange creme base.

On the pictures (which are not very good I'm affraid, you can't see the details, I promise I will get better at taking them!) are two coats of gorgeous bling bling, a base coat and a top coat.

Have a great day!

What is on your must read list?

Have a great day!
